Ski Lessons Prepare Kids for 2014 Winter Olympics
So I finally did it. For years I’ve wanted my boys to learn to ski, but the seasons kept speeding by and the boys kept getting older. I was afraid if I didn’t hurry and take them, I’d miss teaching them to ski while they were still young.
Enter Krista Parry of Park City Mountain Resort. If you haven’t met Krista, you really should. She’s a do-er and a go-getter. And she helps promote a fabulous program for kids to learn how to ski called Start Now. She helps make things happen and this year, she helped make things happen for us.
Krista could see that our kids were headed for yet another year of unfulfilled skiing promises, so she took matters into her own hands and arranged ski lessons for my kids up at Park City Mountain Resort. Needless to say, we were all very excited.
I was worried about how they would do. After all, I’d be leaving them in group lessons for three hours at a time. What if they needed me? What if they got hurt? But Krista and a friend of mine who also put her kids in the Start Now program reassured me that the instructors were second to none. And just as they promised, the kids did great. In fact, they did better than great.
After the first lesson they could already go down the hill with confidence. The second and third lessons taught them better turning and balance. By the last lessons, I was nothing short of stunned as I watched my two boys ski through obstacle courses, doing bumps and turns which had taken me years to master.
So my kids finally learned to ski. Any doubts I had about their abilities have been erased. Any lack of confidence they may have had in themselves has been replaced with borderline cockiness. In fact, their skiing skills seem to improve every day. Due to our current family vacay in Central America, the boys haven’t seen temperatures below 90 degrees for over a week, yet they’re still talking about how they are “probably going to win a medal at the next Olympics.” That’s fine with me. I’ll be right there with them every step of the way.
testing.
